MYTH NO. 1: BUILD OR REMODEL FIRST, THEN HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER LATER
AN INTERIOR DESIGNER WORKING WITH THE RENOVATION TEAM/DEVELOPER FROM THE START YIELDS THE BEST RESULTS!
Having your interior designer and architect work together from the outset of a project will help streamline the process and will almost always save you money. Each professional brings their particular expertise to the table which produces stunning results in less time and with less snags along the way.
MYTH NO. 2: AN INTERIOR DESIGNER WILL TAKE OVER AND MY HOUSE WON'T FEEL LIKE "ME"
FACT NO. 2
AN INTERIOR DESIGNER WILL MAKE YOUR HOME FEEL MORE LIKE "YOU" THAN EVER BEFORE!
Working with a designer should be a collaborative effort! While most designers have a definite style, the key to good design is creating a relationship with the clients and getting to understand and interpret their needs, wants, and must have's. Every client has a style; a good designer will bring that style to life in a way that is both functional and fabulous.
MYTH NO. 3: AN INTERIOR DESIGNER WILL GET RID OF ALL OF MY THINGS AND BRING IN ALL NEW ITEMS
FACT NO. 3
GOOD INTERIOR DESIGNERS WILL INCORPORATE ALL OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS INTO THE NEW DESIGN & EVEN USE THEM FOR INSPIRATION!
One of the things that characterizes good design in my book, is creating a space that takes into account WHO that space is being designed for. The ultimate goal for me, as a designer is capture the essence of the client- their lifestyle, their vibe, and have that reflected throughout the home. Incorporating special pieces and family favorites adds character to any space and creates a true feeling of home.
MYTH NO. 4: YOU CAN DO IT ON YOUR OWN
FACT NO. 4
YOU COULD DO IT ON YOUR OWN... BUT YOU SHOULDN'T
Of course many people possess the talent and knowledge necessary to design their own home, and some do! The great majority of people however will find they lack either the talent, time, knowledge, all of the above, OR they simply want the security of having a professional on their side! Designers provide access to custom items, unique materials, and artisans that will give your home a wow factor. Often they possess resources that only they have access to as professionals, and that allows them to offer better pricing for luxury items you may not otherwise have considered for your home! (Quick side note: Not all designer-exclusive resources are expensive- there are price ranges for every budget!!!). Designers also know how to keep things moving by using their skills and avoiding time consuming and costly mistakes... like that area rug that you bought which is totally the wrong size! In short by combining experience, talent, and expertise a designer is able to go above and beyond in creating a home that is as timeless as it is flawless.
