5 Ideas to Bring a Personal Touch to Your Interior Design

Good interior design is about much more than choosing the perfect finishes, & furnishings for a project; it is about creating the FEELING of home for your clients. Of course that is different for everyone but there are a few things that anyone can do to create a design that is meaningful and personal. Here are 5 ways to add that personal touch.

NO. 1 FAMILY PHOTOS (& PORTRAITS)

This is one of the most common and easiest ways to personalize your design. Whether you have a gallery wall of family photos or framed photos spread throughout your home ( or BOTH!) you can create a beautiful look that adds character and depth.

NO. 2 MEANINGFUL ART

Don't be afraid to incorporate beautiful art pieces from your travels or those that represent places you love! Also, traditional art that represents your heritage is a great way to bring some personality and meaning to your home. As you shop for art, or as you travel keep an eye out for that special piece that will a great addition to your home and will serve as a poignant reminder of a special time and place.

NO. 3 FAMILY HEIRLOOMS

If you are lucky enough to have an heirloom you know the feelings it can evoke. For me, it is my mother's secretary desk. She always had it in her room when I was growing up and every time I see it in my own home, it reminds of her and the time we spent together coloring at that desk.

NO. 4 SCENTED CANDLES

Fragrances are known to evoke memories; they have the power to remind you of special people, and amazing places. Using candles with scents that evoke a particular happy feeling or memory is a great way to evoke that warm fuzzy feeling of home!

NO. 5 SAY IT WITH COLOR

Growing up one question I am sure you heard many times was, "What is your favorite color"? This was not a question to be taken lightly either! We all have colors that we are instinctively drawn to and that evoke a certain feeling when we are surrounded by them, so why not use them in your home! Sometimes finding that PERFECT fabric with your favorites tones is all it takes; other times you may want to go bold and paint an entire room- the idea is to make it beautiful and make it your own.
